About Wordman

What is Wordman?

Wordman is a calm, thoughtful word game designed for early readers learning through phonics. It combines simple gameplay with gentle clues and support to help children build confidence with words.

Who is it for?

Wordman is designed for children beginning to read, typically those learning phonics at school. It can be played independently or together with a parent.

How does it support learning?

Wordman complements phonics teaching by encouraging children to recognise sounds, understand word meanings, and think about language. Clues feel like simple, crossword-style prompts, supporting vocabulary and reasoning alongside what they learn at school.

Can my child play this independently?

Yes. Wordman is designed so children can play independently once they understand the basics. Many children also enjoy playing together with a parent, especially in the early stages.

Audio & Gameplay

Do I need sound on?

Sound is an important part of the Wordman experience. Spoken clues and guidance help children understand and engage with each word.

The game can still be played without sound, but we recommend using audio where possible.

There’s no sound, what should I do?

  • Check your device volume
  • Make sure silent mode is off
  • Try closing and reopening the app
